We love coffees that taste amazing. We also love coffees that do remarkable things for the people who grow them. Finding coffees that have both in common is a roaster’s dream. This microlot from the Gondo washing station in Murang’a, Kenya is a prime example of qualities of both flavor and transparency. The Gondo washing station is owned and run by the New Kiriti Farmers’ Cooperative Society, which has 560 members. The cooperative has spent lots of time and energy over the last 10 years not only improving the way their coffee tastes, but how they treat their co-members, improving wages and working conditions at the washing factory (read more about their efforts here).
As for the quality of the coffee, this one will speak for itself. It is a bright and vibrant Kenya profile that reminds us of toasted sugar, a bright orange zingy acidity, and a crisp tart finish.
