We view coffee from Guatemala as one of the most accessible in the world. Due to the high concentration of volcanic soil in the center of the country, coffees cultivated here tend to be heavy in chocolate and sweet fruit flavors. Guatemala Finca La Unión is no exception. Started back in the 1950s by the Higueros Estrada family, La Unión has transformed from a small farm into a central community coffee hub. Along with growing and processing their own coffee, they also help 15 different small farmers process their coffees as well. Also, they provide roasting services for those farmers (so folks can distribute locally in Guatemala). We found this coffee after our friends at San Miguel Coffees sent us samples this past spring. They jumped off the table with lush notes of cocoa, grapefruit, and white wine.
